Associação NaTerra celebrou este Sábado o dia Mundial do Ambiente (5 de Junho) através de uma actividade levada a cabo na Jardim Camões, em Macau.

Nesta actividade os traunseuntes foram convidados a experimentar vários jogos que estimularam os seus sentidos e enfatizavam a relação com a natureza. Foi uma actividade bastante popular com todos os visitantes do jardim, na sua maioria locais, sobretudo com as crianças que aproveitaram a oportunidade para descobrir plantas que não conheciam, conhecer o seu cheiro, textura e relacioná-las com o sabor que experimentam no chá ou na gastronomia. Entre outros jogos, ouviram também o som do mar através de búzios e experimentaram sabores conhecidos de olhos fechados. No fim, muitos levaram sementes para casa.
Esta actividade teve como propósito central a celebração do Dia Mundial do Ambiente, mas também o de dar a conhecer à comunidade local a associação, mais conhecida pelo seu projecto Raio de Sol, que está neste momento em fase de execução, em Baucau, Timor. A NaTerra aceitou a proposta de um dos seus membros, Ricardo, e foi até à IIUM (Instituto Inter-Universitário de Macau) para falar da Associação e do seu principal projecto “Raio de Sol” a um grupo de alunos. Inicialmente, e para que todos se sentissem parte do grande grupo, fez-se uma roda gigante e um pequeno jogo de números e palmas. Depois de uns sorrisos e gargalhadas, estavam todos mais descontraídos e falou-se um pouco do nascimento da Associação, da sua perspectiva holística da educação, das suas preocupações com a insustentabilidade do Mundo de hoje em dia, a escassez de recursos naturais, e mais. O projecto foi apresentado brevemente, mencionando a visão, a missão e os objectivos. E depois de lançadas estas ideias, os alunos juntaram-se em grupos para debater o assunto e formular perguntas. Porquê Timor Leste? Quais pensam ser os maiores desafios a enfrentar quando lá chegarem? De onde vem a força para levarem à avante um projecto destes e que suporte têm? Que técnicas irão utilizar para a aplicação prática da sustentabilidade?

Muitas foram as perguntas, e no final... E aqui em Macau têm já algum projecto? Já existem algumas ideias no ar, agora só têm de cair naTerra e germinar...

A experiência foi boa e a IIUM será recordada em próximas acções...

NaTerra accepted the invitation of one of its members, Ricardo, and went to IIUM (Macau Inter-University Institute) to talk about the Association and present Raio de Sol project to some students.
At first, and so that everyone would feel part of the big group, a giant circle and a simple game of claps and numbers were done. After smiling and laughing, everyone was more comfortable, and a small talk to introduce the Association’s birth, its holistic perspective on education, its concerns with the nowadays World’s unsustainability, the natural resources scarcity, and more. The main project of the Association was briefly presented, specifying the vision, mission and aims. And after spreading these ideas, in small groups the students debated the matter and wrote some questions.
Why East Timor? Which do you think will be your bigger challenge? How do you have the strength to do such a project, and what support do you have? What techniques do you use to apply the sustainability?

There were many questions, and at the end… And in Macau, any project in development? Some ideas are already in the air, now they only have to fall in the soil and germinate…

The experience was nice and IIUM will be remembered in futures actions…

As turmas do 3º ano da Escola Portuguesa de Macau vieram visitar o terraço demonstrativo de Permacultura.

Foi um dia mágico. As vozes e risos subiram pelas escadas e no 6º andar estavamos nós à espera. Haviam perguntas a esvoaçar e um terraço pronto para pormos mãos-à-obra.

It was a magical day. Voices and laughter came up the stairs and on the 6th floor we waited. There were questions flying around and a rooftop waiting for helping hands.

Next Gen – The Rebellion!

Next Gen is a gathering of international young spirits who wish to be part of the sustainability movement of the present time and for the following generations. The word “Next Gen” is a short term of ‘next generation of Ecovillages’ - a sustainable way of living in a new paradigm. By trying to find a new way of living and taking action to support the better change in the world, you can consider Next Gen as the rebellion!

Next Gen emerged in October 2005 at Gen + 10 conference at Findhorn Foundation in Scotland. The Gen + 10 conference was a celebration of the 10 years anniversary of GEN(global ecovillage network – http://gen.ecovillage.org), where the Gen adults discussed the importance for the future of the next generations, and gave space for the youth in the conference to speak up. The voice of youth in the conference brainstormed together and burst forth with the idea of NextGen – the next generation’s international organization.

NextGen’s first planning meeting took place in July 2006 at the Las Canadas Ecovillage in Huatusco, Mexico. 30 young people who were already in the ecovillage movement from around the world were invited to brainstorm on the goal, vision, mission statement and structuring of the NextGen organization with the support of the Gen mentors. Nextgen Regional was set up with regional representatives.

What is the role of youth in the ecovillage movement and how to take the role, are the mains questions of NextGen’s movement. As Ecovillages are a way of living in a new paradigm for sustainability, the first question relating to above can be asked “what is the role of youth in this new paradigm?

To answer the question we have to see clearly what is the old paradigm and what is the new paradigm. What are the concepts behind the old paradigm that doesn’t support sustainability? The most important point is how we see the old paradigm cultivated in the daily living of each of us. Once we see the old paradigm concept in ourselves, we can start changing from that spot, to be rebellious in daily lives. Changing ourselves is changing the world!

What is the new paradigm or what is the paradigm for sustainable living are the big questions that follow. To look for knowledge and wisdom of sustainable living we must look from every where. We look from our mentors in ecovillage movement. We look from local wisdom, ancient knowledge, diverse cultures, religions, spiritual practices, ecologists, scientists, shamans etc. therefore, to be rebellious in this term, we have to also be open and humble to learn.

How to take a role in this paradigm of sustainability? It is an important question requiring a deep quest in the inner world and a wider quest in the outer world. To know how to take role in this world we need to know both ourselves and the world.

Who am I?
Why am I here?
What am I doing?
Why am I doing this?
What am I looking for?
What does life mean to me?
What is my life for?

And

What is going on in the world?
Who are poor?
Who are suffering?
What are the problems?
What causes the problems?

Digging the inner world starts from the same questions, yet each of us may find different treasures! Someone may find that they are borne with the gift of art and creativity, someone are gifted to be poets, some love to be facilitators or teachers, reporters, writers, healers, project managers, farmers, ecovillagers, etc. whatever is your treasure, be sure that you can be part of the movement by sharing your gifts and skills to support the poor and those who are suffering; connecting the treasure from your spirit with its true home and home of all – nature; using your treasure to make the home more beautiful and sustainable for the next generations of all beings! That would be an answer for ‘what is my role’ question.

To end, NextGen is a gathering of the young spirits who are trying to seek the way back to connect with their true home. NextGen welcomes all the young spirits (doesn’t have to be young age) to join the journey!

A day in Coloane

As culturas tradicionais têm muito a partilhar com o resto do Mundo visto a maior parte delas viver ainda em harmonia com a natureza circundante. Os seus alimentos são produzidos localmente, os materiais utilizados para os seus abrigos não percorrem grandes distâncias e as relações sociais tendem a ser muito fortes. Inspirando-se nestas tradições, e em adaptação aos dias de hoje , alguns indivíduos criaram “Oásis” de reconexão com os ciclos naturais. Há quem os designe por Comunidades Intencionais, outros Ecoaldeias, e o que os une é o respeito que têm pela Natureza e o desejo de juntos criar uma vida harmoniosa.
A naTerra na sua procura por uma forma de vida mais sustentável cruzou-se com a Global Ecovillage Network (GEN). A GEN une pessoas e comunidades para criar um futuro sustentável através da assistência e coordenação de esforços com vista a adquirir uma harmonia social, espiritual, económica e ecológica. Juntos procuram encorajar uma cultura de aceitação e respeito mútuo, de amor e solidariedade, comunicação livre e educação multi-cultural.
A GEN serve de plataforma activa para partilhar o conhecimento experimental, desde os processos que resultaram até àqueles que por algum motivo não tiveram tanto sucesso.

Alguns dos membros da GEN são:
grandes redes como a Sarvodaya, com 11000 vilas sustentáveis no Sri Lanka;
a Ecoyoff e a Colufifa, com 350 vilas no Senegal;
o projecto Ladakh no Tibete;
ecocidades como Auroville no sul da Índia, a Federação de Damanhur na Itália e Nimbin na Austrália;
pequenas ecoaldeias rurais como a Associação Gaia na Argentina e Huehuecoyotl no México;
projectos de rejuvenescimento urbano como a Los Angeles Ecoaldeia e Christiania em Copenhaga
design de permacultura como Crystal Water na Austrália, Cochabamba na Bolívia e Barus no Brasil
centros educacionais como Findhorn na Escócia, o Centro para tecnologia alternativa no País de Gales, Earthlands em Massachusetts, e outros…

O resultado de anos de experiência a viver em harmonia com a natureza e em comunidade criou um grupo que se juntou para partilhar lições aprendidas. Uma das suas iniciativas foi a Gaia Education, um consórcio internacional de educadores que desenvolveram currículos e cursos sobre o Design e Desenvolvimento Sustentável de Ecoaldeias para Centros Urbanos e Rurais. Este programa pretende dar vida a vários “GEESE” – Educadores de Ecoaldeias Globais para uma Terra Sustentável.

GEESE mais antigos já vivem e desenham Ecoaldeias há algum tempo eassim foram obtendo as habilidades e capacidades necessárias para tal. Hoje em dia, já com vários modelos a seguir, as novas gerações não têm necessidade de começar do zero, e juntos podem construir sobre as bases já criadas. Para isto foi criado um currículo holístico que facilmente se adapta às diferentes características sociais e bioregionais das diversas áreas onde é realizado. Este curso é designado por Educação para o Design de Ecoaldeias (EDE).
A maior parte dos programas EDE são feitos em Ecoaldeias, por serem exemplos vivos das ideias exploradas durante a formação. Assim, a integração dos princípios e práticas respectivas é feita à medida que são exploradas quatro dimensões que estão profundamente relacionadas: as esferas social, ecológica e económica da comunidade e a forma de experienciar o Mundo com uma visão global.

Local traditional cultures have a lot to share with the world, as most still live in harmony with their surroundings. Their food is produced locally, the materials used on their shelters travel very little and the social links they have tend to be very strong. Inspired by those traditional cultures and adapted to the daily challenges and realities some individuals have created “oasis” of reconnection with the natural cycles of the Planet. Some call them Intentional Communities others Ecovillages and the core that unites them all is the respect for Nature and the desire for creating a harmonious life together.
NaTerra’s journey, to find ways of living that have minimal impact upon Nature, came across Global Ecovillage Network (GEN). GEN is a global confederation of people and communities that is creating a sustainable future by identifying, assisting and coordinating the efforts of communities to acquire, social, spiritual, economic and ecological harmony. They encourage a culture of mutual acceptance and respect, solidarity and love, open communication, cross-cultural outreach and education by example. They serve as a catalyst to bring the highest aspirations of humanity into a practical reality.
GEN is an active networking platform where a lot of experiential knowledge is shared. Things that worked well and those which didn’t work so well. Network members include large networks like Sarvodaya (11,000 sustainable villages in Sri Lanka); EcoYoff and Colufifa (350 villages in Senegal); the Ladakh project on the Tibetian plateau; ecotowns like Auroville in South India, the Federation of Damanhur in Italy and Nimbin in Australia; small rural ecovillages like Gaia Asociación in Argentina and Huehuecoyotl, Mexico; urban rejuvenation projects like Los Angeles EcoVillage and Christiania in Copenhagen; permaculture design sites such as Crystal Waters in Australia, Cochabamba in Bolivia and Barus in Brazil; and educational centers such as Findhorn in Scotland, Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales, Earthlands in Massachusetts, and more.
The result of years of experiences trying to live in harmony with nature and in community created a pool of elders that got together to share lessons learned. One of their initiatives is Gaia Education, an international consortium of educators developing curricula and courses on Ecovillage Design and Sustainable Development for Urban and Rural Settlements. This program aims to bring to life many new “GEESE” – Global Ecovillage Educators for a Sustainable Earth.
Elder “GEESE” have been living in and designing Ecovillages for a while and obtained the skills needed for that. Now with living examples, the younger generations have no need to start from “scrash” and together can build upon those lessons. For that a holistic curriculum has been created, easy to adapt to the social and bioregional characteristics of the diverse areas that welcome the training. It is called Ecovillage Design Education (EDE).
Most of the EDE programs are set in Ecovillages as ongoing examples of the ideas explored during the training. This way integration of principles and respective practices is done, while exploring four dimensions that are deeply interconnected with each other: the Social, Ecological and Economical spheres of community and the Worldview, the way to experience the world.

Terminada a exposição na Casa Garden há mais de um mês, agradecemos a todos aqueles que nos deram um empurrãozito na nossa caminhada até Timor e um Bom Ano do Búfalo!
Kung Hei Fat Choi!

Depois de mais de um mês de formação na Tailândia em Design de Ecoaldeias para alguns dos membros da naTerra, juntámo-nos todos novamente no passado sábado, 28 de Fevereiro, em Coloane para mais um encontro naTerra.
O objectivo foi o de partilhar as experiências vividas na Tailândia e dar força a esta associação que ainda está na sua fase inicial de vida, mas que está a crescer com o apoio de outras associações e redes internacionais. Obrigado a todos!

Lançadas algumas "sementes" ficam os desejos de futuras iniciativas de divulgação de prácticas sustentáveis e a partilha de actividades entre gente pequena e grande.

For more than a month some of naTerra’s members were in Thailand enrolling an Ecovillage Design Education course. After their arrival we gathered in Coloane for one more NaTerra meeting.
The aim was to share the experiences and the new things learnt but also to strengthen our Association, which is only taking its first steps. We are growing with the support of other associations and international network. Warm gratitude to you all!

And after spreading some seeds, stays the wish to develop and share initiatives that value sustainable practices within our whole community.

Inaugurou na Casa Garden a exposição “Timor Leste: Olhares Emergentes de uma Terra”, com fotografias de Fernando Madeira. Amigos, conhecidos e curiosos estiveram presentes para demonstrar o seu apoio ao projecto “Raio de Sol”. Agradecemos a vossa presença!
A exposiçao está patente na Galeria da Fundação Oriente em Macau, junto ao Jardim Camões, até dia 19 de Janeiro de 2009.

A venda das fotografias reverte 100% a favor do projecto e irá contribuir para que o Raio de Sol possa em breve brilhar em Timor Leste.

“East Timor: Emerging Eyes of a Land” exhibition opened last Friday at Casa Garden, with photos by Fernando Madeira. Friends, family and curious were there to show their support to “Raio de Sol” project. We thank you for coming!

The exhibition will be at Oriente Foundation Gallery in Macao, near Camões Garden, until January 19th 2009. All the earnings from the photos will help “Raio de Sol” to shine in East Timor soon.

Novos Membros Newcomers

A Associação naTerra estendeu-se a 4 novos membros – Margarida Marreiros, Bárbara Xavier, Patrícia Teixeira e Ricardo Rato. Juntos por uma vontade comum de fazer crescer este projecto, cujas raízes se solidificam, para tornar realidade o Centro Comunitário Raio de Sol, em Timor-Leste.
No dia 8 de Dezembro juntámo-nos todos, os 9 membros, para um serão à volta do braseiro, e após dadas as boas vindas aos novos membros, falou-se acerca dos objectivos da naTerra para 2009, das perspectivas sobre este projecto e de como cada um pode contribuir. A naTerra com a sua base em Macau, pretende dar-se a conhecer e continuar a dar frutos.

“naTerra” embraced 4 new members – Margarida Marreiros, Bárbara Xavier, Patrícia Teixeira and Ricardo Rato. They got together with the common will to allow this project to grow. As its roots solidify it makes "Raio de Sol"-Community Center in East-Timor to become a reality.
On the evening of the 8th of December all the 9 members were around the fire and welcomed the newcomers. We talked about “naTerra’s” goals for 2009, about the various perspectives we all have on this project and how each one of us can contribute. “naTerra” Association, with its foundations in Macau, wishes to be known and continue to flourish.

Workshop de Permacultura Urbana Urban Permaculture Workshop

No fim-de-semana de 29 e 30 de Novembro aconteceu, no Albergue e em parceria com a Casa de Portugal de Macau, o primeiro wokshop naTerra sobre Permacultura Urbana. A idea foi promover um espaço de partilha.
Ao longo dos dois dias, foram apresentadas algumas soluções sustentáveis de modo a minimizar os consumos insuportáveis praticados nas grandes urbes, onde Macau não passa despercebido. Foi com enorme prazer e satisfação que partilhámos a temática da sustentabilidade aos olhos da Permacultura e a vontade de juntos contribuírmos para um mundo mais bonito e saudável.

NaTerra held it's first wokshop on Urban permaculture in the 29 and 30 of November. A partnership with the House of Portugal in Macao. The idea was to promote a sharing space. For two days, solutions to minimize the unsustainable consumption practiced in big cities were shown. Macau is clearly one of them. It was with great pleasure and satisfaction that we shared the theme of sustainability in the eyes of permaculture and the willingness to contribute together towards a better and healthier world.

A naTerra levou a cabo a sua primeira iniciativa em Macau. Através da participação no Festival da Lusofonia 2008 – Semana Cultural entre a China e os Países de Língua Portuguesa, apresentou a exposição temática Raio de Sol – um projecto de sustentabilidade em Timor Leste.
O objectivo foi apresentar ao público o conteúdo do projecto e em paralelo sensibilizar a comunidade para a temática da sustentabilidade.

A exposição fotográfica "Timor-Leste – Olhares Emergentes de uma Terra", as visitas à zona demonstrativa do Centro Comunitário Raio de Sol, as mostras de documentários sobre Desenvolvimento Sustentável e as Tertúlias regadas com chá orgânico foram as principais iniciativas no espaço. A mensagem foi positiva, o balanço também.

naTerra has carried out its first initiative in Macau. Raio de Sol - a sustainability project in East Timor was presented in the Lusofonia Festival 2008 - Cultural Week between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries.
The aim was to make public the content of the project and to bring awareness on sustainability to the local community.

The main initiatives in space were: The photographic exhibition "East Timor - Emerging Eyes of a Land", a demonstrative site of Raio de Sol – Community Center, documentaries and talks on Sustainable Development. The message was positive as well as the results.
